Crossing the Bar

Crossing the Bar, by Tennyson (1809-1892)

Many of our shipmates, depot and office staff who have “crossed the bar” are listed here. Some names have a link to a newspaper clipping or other detail.

Those who died while on duty in this region are especially remembered. While rare, it happens. Tom Shelby of Saltspring Island was a member of the Bull Harbour Lifeboat and perished on a 1989 mission. His story is here.

On the grounds of the Coast Guard College there is a memorial dedicated to those CG members who passed away on duty. There are a surprising number of names on it.
